08:47 am - Happy New Year!
For me, Fall has always heralded the start of a new year. Perhaps it's because that's when the school year starts. Fall has always meant new things to learn, new people to meet, new challenges and information. Though I haven't been in school of any kind for years now, the feelings associated with a new school year always return when the days get shorter and the winds bring the chilly, crisp smell of ripe apples from the yard and snow from the mountains.

This weekend was the first day of Fall. Oh, it wasn't "officially," but this weekend was the first time it was cold enough to fire up the wood pellet stove and put on a couple of sweaters. It was the first time it was cold enough to drag out the giant, poofy down comforter for the bed, and the first time I felt that sense of energy, of new life for the year -- that sense that anything was possible. It was the first time we saw snow just outside of town. Yep, it's a new year, with new possibilities.

Now, let's GO GET 'EM!

You and me both! Yesterday I helped Jenn bring her entire fall wardrobe up and during work, I was sent to Dunkin Donuts and it was just beautiful.

This wonderfully crisp breeze, clear blue skies, the air is just cool and clean...

I need to get home and get my fall wardrobe even though we've got another two weeks or so of warm weather.

I'm right there with you.

I think part of it for me is that our summers are so hot that a lot of things get put on hold until it is cooler.

We had rain yesterday and I had to get the heater going in the morning. It was wonderful.

It's like coming out of a cocoon or something. Coming alive now that the weather is turning.

*I* have apple trees. This is Chewie's favorite time of year, because the apples start falling and he can live up to his title of "The Apple-Eatingest Dog in America."

Rob, sadly, has no apples.

even if they bonked him on the head, he wouldnt notice. Be lucky for him to pause to eat the apple.

I do so have an apple tree, just not 40 years old and bearing fruit. give it a decade or so, and damn it, Ill have one. the little guy survived the first year, so we'll see if it does better next. I dont even remember it blooming
