|08:58 am - After 20 Years, who knows my name?|
Probably about 2 or three people. So why, you may ask, am I even bothering to attend my 20-year (yes, I'm *that* old. *sigh*) high school reunion?
It's an interesting question. I went to the first reunion planning meeting several months ago because I figured I could set up a website for 'em. Setting up a website to me is a zero-cost, minimal time investment thing, so why not?
I ended up enjoying being involved in the planning, so I kept going to the meetings and offering my input. I never did much other than get us some PSA spots and set up the website, but it was kind of fun. So, now I feel kind of obligated to go since, in a sense, I was on "the committee."
I didn't really know anyone else who was planning it, other than one or two people I knew by name and maybe to say "Hi" to in passing, but I've really enjoyed meeting one of the other gals. She's very cool and funny -- just an all-around very nice non-snobbish person -- so that's one good thing that came out of it. I also only know maybe one other person who's going -- she's kept in touch with me via email over the last couple of years. There are a couple of names I recognize, but pretty much none of my "crowd."
And it's not surprising. I was in the Theater Geek, Literary Magazine crowd. Drama, Choir, Creative writing -- that was the kind of stuff we were interested in. We were pretty snobby ourselves, in that we looked down on the non-intellectuals around us. (You know, the cheerleaders and so forth.) Well, other than the few cheerleaders and jocks who were also intellectual. The point is, we didn't really mix with the kind of people who A) plan a high-school reunion or B) go to a high-school reunion.
So, I really won't see any of my old gang there. Plus, most of my friends were either in a class above or a class below mine, so it would probably be better if I went to next year's class reunion instead. :-)
I don't even know why I'm going except that, well, for one, it's a chance to get a picture of me and Charlie. Charlie has seriously avoided pictures for a long time, but I think I can talk him into it "just this once.) (Some friends of mine were hired as the photographers for the event, and they do dynamite work. If you've ever seen the MrsV and Santa picture, that was their brainchild. If you haven't seen it, post a comment and I'll throw out the linky. It's pretty hilarious.)
Secondly, I would like to see Jenna (the one person I've kept in touch with), and there's a chance that there will be other nice people there as well. Maybe even someone who remembers me. hehe!
Finally, I already paid.
So, that's that.
I may post pictures of my proposed outfits for "formal night." We'll have a little "What Not to Wear" right here on LJ. Whaddya say?
You paid, you have to go. :P
I love that santa picture, but you knew that.
What are you wearing, sweetie??

what to wear?
That's the point. I have no earthly idea. Tonight is a sort of casual meet-and-greet thingy at some sports bar type of place, and I'm just wearing a kind of casual dress/sweater thing.
Tomorrow is the formal thing, and I haven't tried stuff on, because I'm afraid that every formal thing I own is too big.
I think I have some things I picked up at a garage sale awhile back that were just a tad on the small side at the time, so one of them might be okay. At some point, I'm going to have to try stuff on and see if anything fits.
There is no way I'm buying some kind of retail formal outfit for this, so I need to seriously find something in my closets.
Try on the stuff that was a bit small before, sweetie. You may get lucky.
Remember that stores are having huge sales right now. Everything summer is on clearance. You might be able to find something for not a lot of money.
Or you could wear one of those outfits you got when you visited Q. :D

Re: what to wear?
Yeah, I'm going to try everything on and see what I come up with. I just don't want to spend money on an outfit that actually, I'll probably wear once. (I don't go formal all that much.) Besides, I've glanced at the formalish stuff they have over the last few months when I've been out, and it's pretty much all god-awful.
The outfits I got in the Bay Area are all too big. I mean, they're big to the point that they make me look sick or like a little girl dressing up in mommy's clothes. The formalest ones are WAY too big, because I got them a bit big in the first place. :-(
Try stuff on, honey. You may have to run out and get something to wear under, but there's no harm in that.
Never say never. You don't know when you'll have to get dressed up and go somewhere.
Hey!! Can you borrow something from Banshee?? She must have dressy clothes. They took that cruise last year.
How formal is formal?? Are we talking the prom?? Or dinner out somewhere nice??

Re: what to wear?
I honestly don't know. From working with the planning committee, I'm thinking "formalish," but not necessarily prom material. Then again, I didn't go to my prom (being the geek that I was who disdained such things), so who knows.
The stuff I have is more cocktail-party formal than evening-gown formal, but I don't care so much about that. If I'm the only one in an above-the-knee, skin-tight, glittery little black dress, then so much the better. I'm good at pulling stuff like that off. :-)
Maybe I'll throw some things on later, and let you guys vote on the pics. :-)
Do you have a Hot Topic?? ;) You could get a shiny tank top and put it over a skirt and do me heels.
I think trying stuff on is a good idea.
I didn't go to my prom or any of the reunions... so I'm not help. *L*
Show us what you got, girlie. ;)
Whoo! Fashion advice!
My first advice is to not pay too close attention to mine. *lol*
I was the same crowd in HS, only I didn't much participate in that, either, because I was the ultimate wallflower weenie. When I find a genie, the "I get to do it over knowing then what I know now" wish is a priority. ;)
And don't get on about that "old" crap. You're not too far ahead of me, and I am NOT old!
I'm ancient, thankyouverymuch. ;)
heh. Well, I am the youngest in my graduating class. They started me out early since I could already read and write and do basic arithmetic and geometry.
I'm still ancient, though. Much more ancienter than you.
One of my classmates is a grandmother.

Re: The Santa Pic
Damn, DanielK was right: I was a stone hottie.
Damn, you're hot! Now I'm all jealous and will have to be catty for awhile. Nothin' personal. ;)
People in your graduating class aren't allowed to be grandparents, yet. Tell them to send it back.

Re: The Santa Pic
I *was* hot. That was about 70 pounds ago, so unfortunately the Cleavage of Doom is now more like the "Cleavage of Minor Annoyance."
And yeah, I'll make a note of the grandkid thing. I'm sure they'll appreciate it. hahahaha!
Pishposh. I know my verb tenses and use them as I intend. So there. ;P
I love that picture. :D

Re: The Santa Pic
Believe it or not, there are some people who have not seen the Santa pic. So I guess it's okay. :-)
Yeah, if nothing else, it's going to be damn good to see the photogs, and WE can chat about old times too. Sharon and I were in a play together (at least one), and we were in the same class (different schools, tho) in high school so we knew all the same Drama Geeks.
I think it'll be fun.

:::Bangs head on desk:::
Our 25th reunion is coming up. I would so totally go if we could, but we're going to miss it by about 2 weeks.
Even if you'll only marginally know most of the people who will be there, it still might be way more fun than you anticipate. Over 20 years people grow up, they develop their own personalities and not the high school clique crap, and you might make a few connections friend-wise you otherwise wouldn't have.
And if not, it's a night out!
Oh yeah. I'm all for a night out. :-) Charlie can't even back out this time. Muwahahahaha!!!
And you're right: people do change. I've changed a lot, I know.
You want me to come over for a photo shoot?
I think you look way better with the extra 70lbs.
I wish I was as Hot as you were then and now, MrsV. *sigh*
Who says you're not??? I'll MOIDERLIZE 'EM!!!
and really it's about time that Santa got what he wanted >: )
