07:28 am - I'm Going to the Fair!
The "Psychic Fair," that is! Gosh, I can't wait to ride on the Celtic Cross and the Wheel of Fortune! I hear they're real thrillers!

"Um ... what?" you might say. "You're going to the who?"

That's right, my friends, you heard correctly. You see, my Mom has recently started her own little business. She does Dream work, Reiki, and Spiritual Direction. She decided that a booth at the Psychic Fair would be a good place to sort of get the word out, so she's going to be doing Dream Card Readings for people, giving out business cards and so forth, and I will be attending with her to offer moral support.

Mom is, in a sense, trapped between two worlds: the world of conservative Catholicism, and the world of New Age type stuff. The Spiritual Direction thing has a long tradition in the Catholic church. She even used to be subsidized by one of the local parishes here to offer Spiritual Direction to the congregation. Reiki, on the other hand, seems to fall into the New Age, energy work, crystal healing sort of genre (except without the crystals).

So this business is a bit of a frightening venture, as you can imagine.

On the good side, she's already run into her first "Reiki is of the devil and I'm going to tell everyone at the parish that you're in league with Satan and dangerous OMG WTF LOL" person, so while that was quite disheartening, at least she's aware that this sort of person exists.

It will be interesting to me how this plays out today. Maybe I'll find some new essential oils. Or some parsely, sage, rosemary or thyme. Or ribbons for my true love's hair. Or, you know, like that.

I hope I don't throw up on the Celtic Cross again, though. That was embarassing.

Ooh, interesting. I came across a psychic fair once when I was wandering through golden gate park in SF. It wasn't nearly as freaky as I was hoping for -- it was all very normal. Unfortunately, no psychic surgery, which might be my favorite psychic thing ever.

Hope your mom didn't run into any more zealots, but at least the population there should have pretty much self-selected them out.

Heh. Yeah, it was fun, and no zealots. Whee!

They even had some belly dancers. That was way cool!
